Last year, I
went to Poland. I liked Polish Culture in terms of architecture and cuisine.
Firstly, Poland has a lot of historical places, castles and churches. Second
World War affected Poland in various ways. Now the Nazi Camps are shown the
world as a reminder of what happened in the past years in Auschwitz. These
places had tough situations, such as wars, weather conditions etc., and
witnessed lots of historical events. But most of them were able to be rescued by
restoration. I admired the castles because they still have the beauty of those
times when Kings and Queens lived. Krakow is seen as the ancient capital of
Poland because it has Sukiennice
(cloth-hall) which attracts tourist from all around the world. Majority of
Polish people are Catholic so their churches are designed suitable to their
religion. Poland
is also famous for its salt mines. Secondly, the cuisine of Poland includes kielbasa, pyzy, kopytka, pierogi
and much more delicious foods. They have some traditional soups which have
mushrooms and tomatoes as their ingredients. Their understanding of soup is
different from Turkish people because they usually add ingredients without
slicing tiny pieces. The most famous drink of Poland is vodka. On Christmas
Eve, Polish people serve a kind of non-alcoholic drink whose name is Susz which
includes dried fruits, generally apples, apricots and figs. As far as I
observed they consumed a great amount of black coffee through a day. And they
also have a huge variety of herbal tea which I like the most. Consequently, I liked
the culture of Poland and suggest everyone to go and visit the historical
places and taste traditional foods.

everyone! I am Altınay. Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. I am from
Antalya. Antalya is my favorite city because it has good weather and lots of
lovely places to go and have fun. I am used to the hot weather in Antalya but
now I am in Ankara which has really harsh weather for me. I am a student in
METU Foreign Language Department. I like learning new knowledge and sharing
with other people. I have had the dream of being a teacher since I was a little
girl. I am also interested in learning new languages. For example, now my new
target language is Italian and I want to go to Italy as well as other
countries. I went to Poland last year
and I like there. Maybe in the 3th year, I will go to the U.S.A via work and
travel. I was much more social when I was in Antalya. Now that I am in a new
environment, I am trying to get used to it. I enjoy watching tv series and
movies. I have a collection of them. I care about my birthday so much. We did
lots of crazy parties in the past years. I am planning the new ones with my new
friends. I like making and being made surprises. I am also interested in
playing badminton, beach volleyball and swimming. My friends and I are planning
to open a café-bar in the Kaleiçi in Antalya. I also want to improve myself in
photography because I love to make the moments immortal. That’s all I can tell you about me.
If I were a member of the committee
choosing the person of the year, I would choose Lea Michele as the person of
the year. Let me tell you the reasons why I would choose her. Firstly, I want
to introduce her to you. She was born on 28 August 1986 in New York. She is an actress, singer and songwriter. She has been interested in acting and
singing since she was a little girl. When she was 8 years old, she had her
first Broadway experience with the role of Young Cosette in Les Miserables. Then she continued her acting
life in Broadway stage. She has such a wonderful voice that she is admired by
everyone. She has been starring in Glee which is a popular TV series since
2008. Her character Rachel was written for Lea by Ryan Murphy. She won lots of
awards thanks to her role in Glee. She is concerned about her fans. She is
funny, life full and helpful towards everyone. She plays an active role in
charities for animal rights and gay rights. Unfortunately, her boyfriend
and co-star of Glee Cory Monteith died last summer in July. It was such a sad
event that his friends and Lea had difficulty to continue Glee. Lea has been
dealing with this fact so strongly and maturely that I am impressed. She is one
of the strongest women I have ever known. She accepted the truth and she is
trying to continue her life without Cory. When she sings, everyone is amazed
because of her intense voice. She lives the songs which she sings. I think
that’s the reason why I love her songs. She has now released her first single
Cannonball from her album Louder. Briefly, this year has been difficult and
full of accomplishments for her.
